Privacy Policy

Roomzic ("we", "our service") lets a host create a music "room" and invite participants to suggest tracks, optionally by connecting a music platform account (Spotify, YouTube, Deezer, Amazon Music, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Audius...). This page explains what data we collect, why, and how it's used.

1. Account data

To use Roomzic, you create an account (email + password) or sign in with a third-party account (Google or Facebook). In that case, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture as provided by that service.

2. Connected music platform accounts

When you connect a Spotify, YouTube, Deezer, Amazon Music, Apple Music, SoundCloud, or Audius account to a room you host, we store an access token (and refresh token) letting Roomzic act on your behalf with that platform, solely for the room's purposes: searching tracks, reading your playback queue, or (depending on the platform) adding a track to what's currently playing.

YouTube / Google specific: Roomzic requests the youtube.readonly (read-only) permission solely so the host can view the list of their own YouTube playlists and the contents (video titles) of a playlist they choose to import as the starting point of a room's queue. Roomzic never modifies, deletes, publishes, or shares this data, and never uses it for any other purpose (no advertising profiling, no reselling to third parties). Roomzic's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Roomzic uses YouTube API Services. By using this feature, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

How Roomzic uses Google user data

  • Data accessed: with your permission (youtube.readonly scope), Roomzic accesses the list of your own YouTube playlists and their contents (playlist titles, video titles, thumbnails, video IDs).
  • Data use: this Google user data is used solely to let you, as a room host, import one of your playlists as the starting queue of your room. It is displayed only to you.
  • Data storage: Roomzic stores your Google OAuth access and refresh tokens for as long as the account stays connected (see section 7 "Retention"). YouTube search results are never stored: they are fetched on demand from the YouTube Data API and displayed directly, with no server-side caching. However, when a YouTube track is suggested or imported into a room, its title, artist, thumbnail, and video ID are kept as part of the room's and your suggestion history (see section 4 "Room usage data"), so the queue and your suggestion history remain viewable.
  • Data sharing: Roomzic does not share, transfer, or sell Google user data to any third party, and does not use it for advertising.
  • Data deletion: disconnect YouTube from your settings or revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions — your tokens are deleted immediately. You may also request deletion at contact.roomzic@gmail.com.

3. Cookies, local storage, and similar technologies

Roomzic places and/or reads certain information directly on your device (cookie, browser localStorage, sessionStorage) to operate the service. None of these are used for advertising or cross-site tracking. Details of what is stored:

  • roomzic_lang (cookie) — remembers your chosen display language. Duration: 1 year. Deletion: clear this site's cookies from your browser settings.
  • roomzic_token / roomzic_auth_token (+ _expires, _user) (localStorage) — session token that keeps you signed in to your Roomzic account. Duration: until the token expires or you log out. Deletion: click "Log out", or clear this site's data from your browser.
  • Room session token (localStorage) — keeps you authenticated while you're in a room, including for the room's YouTube-related features. Duration: until the token expires or the session ends. Deletion: leave the room or clear site data.
  • roomzic_installed_room, roomzic_pwa_dismissed (localStorage) — remember whether you installed Roomzic as an app (PWA) or dismissed the install banner, so it isn't shown again unnecessarily. Duration: until manually cleared. Deletion: clear site data.
  • Display preferences (accent color, gradient, light/dark theme, visited links) (localStorage) — remember your visual theme. Duration: until changed or cleared. Deletion: clear site data.
  • roomzic_redirect (sessionStorage) — remembers the page to redirect you to after signing in. Duration: for the browsing tab's session only; cleared automatically when it closes.

You can delete all of this at any time from your browser's privacy settings ("Clear cookies and site data"), or by contacting us at contact.roomzic@gmail.com.

4. Room usage data

We keep the tracks suggested/accepted in a room, the room code, its settings (participant limit, moderation...), and your suggestion history so the queue and the suggestion history available from your profile work correctly. For a YouTube track, this includes its title, artist, thumbnail, and video ID (never the video or audio file itself, which remains hosted and served by YouTube).

5. Payment

Premium features are billed through Stripe. Roomzic never stores your payment card details: they are processed directly by Stripe under its own privacy policy.

6. Notifications

If you accept notifications, your browser creates a push subscription we use only to notify you about events related to your rooms (e.g., a new suggestion awaiting moderation).

7. Retention

Access tokens for a connected music platform account are kept as long as the account stays connected to Roomzic, and deleted immediately when you disconnect it from your settings. Account data is kept as long as your Roomzic account exists. Suggested/imported tracks (including from YouTube) and your suggestion history are kept as long as the room or your account exist; you may request their deletion at the address below (section 13).

8. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell or rent your data to anyone. It is only shared with providers strictly necessary to run the service (hosting, payment via Stripe), and never for advertising purposes.

9. Your rights

You can at any time:

  • disconnect a music platform account from your room or profile settings;
  • revoke Roomzic's access at any time from the Google security settings page (or from your Facebook account settings);
  • request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by contacting us at the address below.

10. Security

Communication with Roomzic is encrypted (HTTPS). Access to data is restricted to what the service technically needs.

11. Children

Roomzic is not specifically directed at children and does not knowingly collect data about them.

12. Changes

This policy may change over time; the "last updated" date at the top reflects the version in effect.

13. Contact

For any question about this policy or your data: contact.roomzic@gmail.com.
